How did you great happiness this week?
I am in Canada with 4 wonderful people, working on the manuals and website information of an organization that makes a difference in the world, so happy AND fulfilled. Sending good energies from the frozen north.
I survived the first week in my new job…and ended it thrilled and excited, because I’m learning stuff. It’s hard, complex and intense, I’m not yet entirely sure how I’m going to factor in writing and the dog that Minion 2 and I really really want, but somehow, that will happen.
In the meantime, Minion 2 appears to have enjoyed his first week too, has signed up to be a Jet and has now got to learn how to play hockey. DH and I realised that the routine that will work best for us is for him to come home on a Friday night then catch a very early train on a Monday morning, which means three nights a week – a huge improvement on the past 18 months when we’ve been lucky to get a week or two together every six weeks.
And Minion 1 returned to university and all sorts of complex challenges, but said as he left how much he had enjoyed being with us. After years of oppositional, aggressive, volatile behaviour, we had a peaceful three weeks where we all got on and there were absolutely no rows, rages or wrangling. A huge step forward.
Hoping that 2018 is a year of hard work, steady growth and peace for all Cherries/Refabbers.
This all sounds wonderful! Glad to hear Minion 1 got back into school.
Week 2 of my new job was tough but I’m learning a lot. DS confided in me about issues with friends. Lovely afternoon at the theatre with close friends, followed by a great dinner at a new restaurant.
Angus is rebounding from the loss of his life-long battlebuddy Emma, and actually full-out PLAYED this past week with his dog walker. Seeing him light up and toss toys around like a puppy was the Best Thing.
My Chinese neighbour surprised me with a pot of spare ribs – I was extra touched because he was managing on his own this week, since his wife hadn’t got back from China.
I had a photography walk in my favourite wood.
Had a good time at the photography group yesterday: lots of inspiration and companionship, and I discovered the reason only one person on the new steering group I’m part of has been responding to my emails for the past three months is that the other three haven’t been getting the emails. I was thinking they just couldn’t be bothered, and I really didn’t want to run it all by myself. Turns out they’re nice guys after all.
The whimsical landscape I was painting felt boring until Friday night, when I was greeted by a whimsical fox. Turns out the trees were just background.
Am also greeting the cold with many layers and taking my daily walk–wonderful to feel back to normal after my Halloween tumble down the stairs.
Tall Boy’s BFF became a grandpa on Monday to a lovely little girl. Other than that, it was just a regular week.
I decided I needed to become more active and to give back in some way. I’m now a board member for the Los Angeles chapter of RWA. We had our first meeting this weekend, and I’d forgotten how much listening is involved with recording minutes. Everyone is younger than me, talks faster than me, talks louder than me. Guess I’ll get the hang of it soon.
It did make me happy to be with other writers. Ha ha.
Between our two Floral Association meetings, lunch in the Prado bar with good friends I like and cherish.
In a small but plush room, spent an iconic evening listening to iconic Ramblin’ Jack Elliott sing songs by and tell stories of old blues singers, cowboys, Kris Kristofferson and Woody Guthrie. Wowzer and a half on toast.
Bonus: Learned how to use speaker phone, then did two interviews while typing at the same time. Not sure it’s a skill because it’s so easy. Makes me happy.
